British Chamber - Statement Covid-19

In the light of COVID-19, the British Chamber of Commerce Myanmar will play its part to minimise the risks while striving to provide services to our Members wherever we can.

We have now:

  • Moved business meetings online to minimise local travel and exposure,
  • Provided the Chamber staff the resources to work from home or from the office safely, to retain continuity of operations,
  • Postponed events until early May, however the dates will remain under review until it is appropriate to resume,
  • Postponed market visits, (largely due to the UK FCO travel advice) but are continuing to offer one to one meeting’s online for UK companies interested in operating in Myanmar,
  • Are currently developing an online program so Members can keep learning during these unsettling times.

As afore mentioned exactly when our events programme will recommence cannot be determined however our members, followers and subscribers will be the first to know. We will continue to plan and develop the programme for the rest of the year in anticipation of normal business resuming.

In the meantime, we will follow the guidelines from the authorised Government authorities in Myanmar and with additional guidance and advice from external entities including WHO, CDC, UK NHS.

We will continue to provide our full support to the British Embassy, the Department for International Trade and our hosts, The Government of Republic of the Union of Myanmar, being ready to provide input to support the Economic Recovery Committee of COVID-19 chaired by U Thaung Tun.

The position of the British Chamber of Commerce Myanmar is to encourage the community to work together to tackle the impact of COVID-19. We encourage positive support of one and other, we encourage everyone to only listen to and act on facts, and avoid spreading un-verified information. We encourage businesses to put their people above their profits and support their staff during this period of uncertainty.

Thank you for your Membership and continued support of the Chamber, which we truly treasure. We look forward returning to normalcy and supporting the growth of businesses in Myanmar as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely

British Chamber of Commerce Myanmar

Peter Crowhurst | Chief Executive Officer
