The CBM has been selling gold coins in weights of one tical, half-tical and quarter-tical since 1991. One tical is equivalent to around 16 grams.

Currently, one-tical coins bear a single star, while the half and quarter-tical coins have a ploughing farmer and logging elephant engraved, respectively.

However, supply of quarter-tical coins has run out due to high demand. As such, the CBM will issue new coins with a fresh design.

. The new coin will have a diameter of 18 millimetres (mm) and a thickness of 1mm.

The “Central Bank of Myanmar” and “4.082 gm 999.9 Fine Gold” will be inscribed in English on one side of the coin and in Myanmar language on the other side.

Buyers will be issued a certificate of authenticity by the CBM.

The ne quarter-tical coins can be purchased at the Myanma Gem Enterprise sales centres in Naypyitaw, Yangon and Mandalay at the daily prevailing gold price plus additional fees of K 12,500.
