Step In Step Up - Official British Chamber Social Impact Partner

We are delighted to announce and introduce our new Social Impact Partner for 2020, Step-In Step-Up.

Step-In Step-Up are a charitable organisation working in the Hlaing Thar Yar township villages, with a mission to empower and educate underprivileged young adults. They have numerous programs and activities including -

Step-in Step-up Vocational Training Academy an initiative focusing on preparing local youth for entry level jobs.

Training includes spoken English, soft skills, vocational skills and practical internships for roles in general and specialised housekeeping, landscaping, F&B kitchen and waiter, as well as front of house in both hotel and other restaurants. The programme also educates these youth about dangers of trafficking and exploitation.

Step-in Step-up GAP Kids a programme run in conjunction with volunteer teachers from Dulwich College Yangon aimed at school students aged between 10 and 17 years old.

The primary goal is to teach English through a variety of educational activities including mathematics, science, photography, art, choral and sports; with a secondary aim to develop awareness and learn strategies to deal with pertinent social and environmental issues such as trafficking.

Agriculture 101 led by a resident Agronomist teaches Step-in Step-up interns how to cultivate soil and grow vegetables.

Step-in Step-up also has ongoing initiatives to find sustainable ways of cleaning and maintaining the Hlaing Thar Yar township villages, reducing problems with mosquitoes, disease and trash, also supports humanitarian initiatives.

The Chamber hope to support Step In Step Up throughout the year, in their many activities through a number of channels, be that donations, man power for clean up’s or circulating information to our member companies. One area we are particularly keen to explore is internship opportunities within Member Companies for the young people in the various programs.
